Client Manager | Sydney CBD | $120,000 - $140,000 + Super

About the Firm

A well-established and growing multidisciplinary public practice firm based in Sydney CBD is looking to welcome an experienced Client Manager to their team.

The firm has more than 50 years of experience providing practical accounting, taxation and audit services to a broad and diverse client base. Alongside accounting and tax, the firm also provides financial services and finance broking solutions to personal, business and wealth clients.

With a strong focus on long-term client relationships, practical advice and quality service, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced public practice accountant looking to step into a broader management and client-facing position.

The Opportunity

This is a full-time Client Manager position based in Sydney CBD, working across a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients.

You will take ownership of client relationships and work closely with Managers and Principals across accounting, taxation, compliance and advisory matters.
The role will provide exposure to a broad range of structures, including companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals and family-owned businesses, while also providing opportunities to develop your leadership, technical and advisory capabilities.

You will also play an important role in supporting junior team members, reviewing work and ensuring client engagements are delivered accurately, efficiently and within required deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain a portfolio of business and individual clients
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients and build strong, long-term relationships
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management accounts and supporting working papers
  • Prepare and review income tax returns and other statutory returns
  • Prepare and review BAS, IAS and PAYG instalment variations
  • Work across companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals and family-owned businesses
  • Review Division 7A calculations, CGT matters and other technical taxation requirements
  • Assist with FBT, Payroll Tax, Land Tax and other compliance matters
  • Liaise directly with clients and external stakeholders, including the ATO, Revenue NSW, ASIC and ACNC
  • Provide practical accounting and taxation advice to clients
  • Assist with complex taxation matters and technical queries
  • Review work prepared by junior and intermediate accountants
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and technical support to junior team members
  • Monitor workflow, deadlines and client deliverables across your portfolio
  • Identify tax planning and advisory opportunities for clients
  • Assist with improving client processes and accounting systems
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value and services to clients
  • Work closely with Managers and Principals on complex client matters
  • Gain exposure to self-managed superannuation fund work where required
Ideally, You’ll Have:
  • Minimum 7 years' experience within Australian public practice
  • Previous experience at Senior Accountant, Supervisor or Manager level
  • Strong technical accounting and taxation knowledge
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients independently
  • Strong knowledge of companies, trusts, partnerships and individual taxation
  • Experience with BAS, IAS, FBT, Payroll Tax, Land Tax and Division 7A
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical skills
  • CA or CPA qualified, or nearing completion
  • Previous experience reviewing and mentoring junior accountants
  • Strong client management and relationship-building capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while also collaborating closely with Managers and Principals
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines and client expectations
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills
  • Experience with Xero, Xero Practice Manager, Xero Tax and FYI Docs would be highly regarded
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency
