Construction Lawyer - 3+ years PQE

Looking for your next move in construction law? This is an opportunity to join a well-regarded boutique practice with a strong focus on building and construction disputes, an established client base and a genuinely collaborative team.
Working alongside experienced construction practitioners, you'll be involved in a varied mix of building and construction litigation, acting for builders, construction companies and other industry participants across a range of complex and commercially significant disputes.

You'll work across a broad range of construction disputes, including:
  • Building and construction defect claims.
  • Builder and subcontractor disputes.
  • Payment disputes and contractual claims.
  • Building contract interpretation and enforcement.
  • Warranty disputes and associated litigation.
  • General building and construction disputes across a range of project types.
The client base includes established builders and construction companies, including national businesses with substantial Victorian operations. You'll have the opportunity to develop strong client relationships and gain exposure to the commercial realities of the construction industry.

The Team & Environment
One of the real drawcards here is the team. You'll be joining an experienced group of construction lawyers who enjoy working together, sharing knowledge and supporting one another.

The practice has a genuinely collaborative approach to its files, with multiple lawyers often working together on matters to share expertise and provide a strong level of client service. You'll have direct access to senior practitioners for guidance and day-to-day mentoring, while still being trusted with autonomy and ownership appropriate to your experience.

The team is approachable, down-to-earth and invested in helping its lawyers develop. There is a strong emphasis on mentoring and regular feedback, without the micromanagement or unnecessary hierarchy that can sometimes come with larger practices.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Quality work: A busy construction litigation practice acting for established builders and construction companies.
  • Genuine mentorship: Work closely with experienced practitioners who are invested in sharing their knowledge and supporting your development.
  • A collaborative team: An experienced group who work together, share files and genuinely enjoy the environment they've built.
  • Career progression: A demonstrated history of internal development, with opportunities to grow your practice and progress as your experience develops.
  • Work-life balance: Realistic expectations around working hours, with a typical 8.30am-5.30pm day and a manageable daily billable expectation.
  • Strong support: Dedicated legal support staff to assist with court filings, document management and the administrative side of practice.
  • Flexible working: The team values face-to-face collaboration, with some flexibility to work from home by agreement.
You'll ideally have:
  • 3-5 years post-admission experience in building and construction law.
  • Experience handling building and construction disputes and litigation.
  • Exposure to building defects, payment claims, contractual disputes or warranty matters.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills.
  • A practical and commercially minded approach to resolving disputes.
  • A genuine interest in construction law and a desire to continue developing your expertise.
You'll be someone who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team, values learning from experienced practitioners and is looking for a firm where you can establish yourself for the longer term.
