This is an opportunity for an established Senior Associate or Special Counsel level family lawyer to step into a role with genuine autonomy, strong client exposure and the opportunity to build and grow your own practice.
You’ll join a well-established and highly regarded family law practice working across a broad mix of matters and clients, with the support of a substantial team around you. The role is suited to someone who is confident running their own files, enjoys building strong client relationships and is ready to take greater ownership of their work and practice.

- Work autonomously across a broad range of family law matters, with the opportunity to build a practice that reflects your strengths and client base.
- Take on a genuine leadership role, mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the development of the wider team.
- Work alongside experienced family lawyers within a collaborative, supportive and well-resourced environment.
- Have a clear pathway to Principal for someone who wants to progress their career in that direction, with the expectation of approximately two years at the firm before consideration.
- Enjoy flexibility around location, with the role primarily based in Melbourne and an openness to regular connection with the wider team rather than a rigid office requirement.
You’ll ideally bring: - Strong technical family law experience and the ability to independently manage a varied caseload.
- An established network, referral base or the ability to generate your own work.
- A genuine interest in mentoring and developing more junior lawyers.
- Commerciality, sound judgement and a client-focused approach.
- The confidence to take ownership of your practice while still being part of a broader team.
This is a role where you can build something long-term rather than simply stepping into another position. You’ll have the autonomy of a senior practitioner, the support of a sizeable family law team and a genuine opportunity to progress towards Principal.
