About the Firm

A well-established Chartered Accounting firm based in Leichhardt is looking to welcome an experienced Senior Business Services Accountant to their growing team.

The firm works with a diverse range of SME and family business clients, providing tailored accounting, taxation and advisory services. With a strong focus on client relationships, practical advice and long-term growth, this is an excellent opportunity for an accountant looking to take the next step in their career.

The firm also holds its own AFSL and SMSF audit license, providing exposure to a broad range of clients and services.

The Opportunity

This is a full-time Senior Business Services Accountant position with a hybrid working arrangement and some flexibility to work from home.
You will manage your own portfolio of business clients while working closely with business owners and Managers across compliance, accounting and advisory services.

The role will provide exposure to a broad range of structures, including companies, trusts, SMSFs, partnerships and individuals, while also giving you the opportunity to develop your advisory, leadership and business development skills.

There is also a leadership and equity pathway available for someone looking to progress their career over the longer term.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of SME and family business clients
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports and income tax returns
  • Work across companies, trusts, SMSFs, partnerships and individuals
  • Prepare and review BAS, GST, FBT, payroll and other compliance requirements
  • Complete reconciliations and ensure client files are accurate and up to date
  • Review work prepared by junior team members
  • Provide direct client support and maintain strong ongoing relationships
  • Assist with tax planning and business advisory services
  • Interpret financial information and provide practical recommendations to clients
  • Assist with strategic planning and business improvement
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional services to clients
  • Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the firm
Ideally, You’ll Have:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within Australian public practice or business services
  • Strong technical accounting and taxation knowledge
  • Experience working with SME and family business clients
  • Strong knowledge of BAS, GST, FBT, payroll and superannuation requirements
  • Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns across a range of structures
  • CA/CPA qualified or currently working towards your qualification
  • Strong client service and advisory capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, engagements and deadlines
  • Previous experience reviewing or mentoring junior staff would be highly regarded
  • Proficiency with Xero, BGL, MYOB, QuickBooks and Excel
