About the role For a lawyer who enjoys the challenge of complex disputes and wants greater ownership of their work, this Brisbane opportunity offers the chance to join a specialist construction law practice.
This opportunity would suit a lawyer with around 4–6 years PQE who enjoys the technical and strategic side of disputes and is looking for greater autonomy in their work. You’ll work directly alongside the principal on a varied caseload of construction disputes, contractual issues and litigation, with each matter presenting its own unique challenges.
While construction law experience would be advantageous, lawyers from other litigation backgrounds will also be considered. The key is having a strong foundation in disputes, the confidence to work through unfamiliar issues and the initiative to take ownership of matters in a fast-paced environment.
With a close working relationship with the principal and flexible working arrangements available, this is an opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility, broaden your technical expertise and play an important role within a specialist practice.
What you’ll be doing - Managing and progressing a varied caseload of construction disputes and litigation matters.
- Advising clients on construction contracts, contractual disputes and related legal issues.
- Undertaking legal research, drafting correspondence and preparing pleadings, submissions and other court documents.
- Developing strategies to resolve disputes and advising clients on their legal options.
- Working through complex and bespoke legal issues, adapting your approach to the circumstances of each matter.
- Preparing matters for court proceedings and assisting with litigation strategy.
- Managing competing priorities and ensuring matters continue to progress efficiently.
- Working directly with the principal on active matters, contributing ideas and taking ownership of your work.
- Building your expertise across construction law, disputes and litigation.
What we’re looking for - Approximately 4–6 years PQE, with a solid foundation in litigation and disputes.
- Construction law or construction disputes experience will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
- Experience in commercial litigation or another disputes-focused practice area, with transferable skills and an interest in construction law.
- Strong analytical, drafting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through unfamiliar legal issues.
- The confidence to manage matters with a high degree of autonomy and take responsibility for your work.
- A proactive and adaptable approach, with the resilience to operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines without constant supervision.
- Someone who enjoys working closely with senior practitioners, is comfortable taking initiative and values a hands-on approach to legal practice.
This role would particularly suit a lawyer who is ready to step into greater responsibility and enjoys the challenge of working on complex, individualised matters rather than high-volume, repetitive files.
What we offer - The opportunity to join a specialist construction law practice focused on disputes, litigation and construction contracts.
- Direct access to and collaboration with the principal, providing exposure to complex matters and practical insights into the strategic side of litigation.
- Greater autonomy and responsibility for managing your own matters and developing your legal expertise.
- A varied caseload involving bespoke construction disputes, with opportunities to tackle different legal and commercial challenges.
- The opportunity to broaden your expertise in construction law, even if your experience to date has been in another litigation practice area.
- Flexible working arrangements, including the potential to work from home full-time once you have settled into the practice.
- An initial period working in the office to become familiar with the practice, its processes and the working relationship, with flexibility around ongoing attendance.
- A practical and flexible approach to working arrangements, with office attendance when required for court preparation and active matters.
- A competitive salary commensurate with experience, with an indicative range of $110,000–$155,000 + superannuation depending on PQE and capability.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a close-knit specialist practice.
