Wills and Estates Lawyer

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Wills & Estates Lawyer to join a highly regarded Queensland-based specialist firm.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with around 3–4 years PQE who is looking to build a long-term career in estate planning. You’ll work with a broad range of clients, from individuals with straightforward estate planning needs to those requiring sophisticated advice involving family trusts, SMSFs, corporate structures and complex family circumstances.

The firm offers a structured training and development program, with tailored supervision and a progressive approach to file management. You’ll be supported to develop your technical expertise, build confidence in client relationships and gradually take on more complex matters as your experience grows.

What you’ll be doing
  • Meeting with clients to understand their personal circumstances, financial position and estate planning objectives.
  • Advising on and preparing wills and a range of estate planning documents.
  • Developing tailored estate plans involving family trusts, SMSFs and corporate structures.
  • Assisting clients with complex family circumstances, including blended families, estranged family members and beneficiaries with disabilities.
  • Working with high-value estates and sophisticated succession planning arrangements.
  • Building strong client relationships and delivering clear, considered and practical legal advice.
  • Progressing from straightforward matters to increasingly complex files as your technical skills and experience develop.
  • Developing relationships with referral partners and other professional networks as your career progresses.
What we’re looking for
  • Approximately 3–4 years PQE, with some practical legal experience already established.
  • Experience in Wills & Estates or estate planning will be highly regarded.
  • A genuine interest in specialising in estate planning and developing expertise in this area long term.
  • Strong drafting, communication and client management skills.
  • A thoughtful, client-focused approach and the ability to understand individual family and financial circumstances.
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to learn from experienced senior lawyers.
  • Someone who values professional development, stability and the opportunity to build a long-term career within a specialist practice.
Lawyers from other practice areas who are interested in transitioning into estate planning may also be considered, provided they have a genuine commitment to the specialisation.

What we offer
  • A dedicated specialist estate planning practice with a consistent and established flow of work.
  • A structured training and onboarding program, including working alongside senior lawyers in client appointments.
  • Ongoing supervision and support, with file allocation tailored to your experience and capabilities.
  • Clear opportunities to progress towards Associate and Senior Associate as your expertise develops.
  • Exposure to sophisticated estate planning matters and complex client structures.
  • The opportunity to build long-term relationships with clients, financial advisers and other professional referral partners.
  • A supportive, collaborative team environment where staff retention and professional development are priorities.
  • Potential work-from-home flexibility once you have established yourself in the role and demonstrated the ability to manage your files independently.
  • A long-term career opportunity within a firm that values commitment to the practice area and the development of its people.
About the firm

This Queensland-based specialist firm focuses exclusively on estate planning and has built a strong reputation over 17 years of practice. With an established network of more than 300 referral partners, the firm provides high-quality, tailored estate planning advice to clients across Queensland and Australia.
Unlike generalist practices where estate planning sits alongside multiple other areas of law, this firm is dedicated entirely to the specialisation. Its work includes sophisticated succession planning for clients with significant assets, complex family arrangements and intricate financial structures.
The firm places a strong emphasis on collaboration, structured development and staff retention, with several lawyers having been part of the team for close to 15 years. For a lawyer looking to develop genuine specialist expertise in a stable and supportive environment, this is an opportunity to build a rewarding career in estate planning.
