Wills & Estate - Associate

The Opportunity

An established and highly regarded Melbourne law firm is continuing to grow its Wills & Estates practice and is looking for a talented Wills & Estates Associate to join the team.

This is a newly created opportunity within a growing practice, making it an exciting time to come on board. The role would suit a lawyer with around 3–5 years’ PQE who is looking for greater autonomy, high-quality work and the opportunity to continue developing their expertise within a supportive team.

You’ll work closely with the Special Counsel, who is highly experienced across Wills & Estates and is known for being approachable, generous with his time and genuinely invested in developing his team.

The Role

This is a broad Wills & Estates role offering exposure to both advisory and contentious matters. You’ll work across Wills, trusts, estate planning, Powers of Attorney and estate administration, as well as more complex estate disputes and litigation.

The practice handles matters including Part IV claims, challenges to the validity of Wills, disputes concerning the administration and construction of estates, VCAT matters relating to Powers of Attorney and guardianship, recovery of estate assets, Probate matters and Deeds of Family Arrangement.
You’ll be trusted to manage your own matters with a high level of autonomy, while having direct access to practitioners whenever you need guidance or want to work through a complex issue. It’s a genuinely client-facing role, with the opportunity to attend meetings, work directly with clients and be involved in matters from start to finish.

About You

We’re looking for an Associate who has a strong foundation in Wills & Estates and is ready to take the next step in their career.

You don’t need to have experience across every aspect of the practice. What matters most is that you’re a capable lawyer who can manage matters independently, has strong technical and drafting skills, and is comfortable taking ownership of your work.

You’ll ideally have experience in some combination of Wills and estate planning, estate administration, trusts or estate disputes. Most importantly, you’ll be someone who is keen to learn, enjoys working with clients and wants to continue building their career in Wills & Estates.

Mentoring & Development

One of the real highlights of this opportunity is the level of support you will receive.

While you’ll have the autonomy to run your own matters, you’ll never feel like you’re on your own. The Special Counsel is highly accessible and generous with his time, providing hands-on guidance and mentoring while giving you the space to develop your own confidence and expertise.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work on quality matters and with sophisticated clients, giving you exposure that will help you build towards the next stage of your career.

The Clients & Work

The practice acts for a strong mix of private clients, families, business owners and high-net-worth individuals, with matters generally sitting in the mid-to-high end of the market.
The work is varied and interesting, with a balance between advisory work and complex disputes. It’s an opportunity to develop strong technical expertise while also building meaningful client relationships.

This firm offers a genuinely supportive and family-friendly environment where career development is taken seriously.

They offer a strong work/life balance, purchased leave, an Employee Assistance Program, internal CPD and professional development opportunities, along with annual salary and performance reviews.

The Wills & Estates practice is in a genuine growth phase, creating exciting opportunities for the right person to develop alongside it.

If you’re an experienced Wills & Estates Associate looking for quality work, genuine mentorship and the opportunity to grow within a supportive and expanding practice, we’d love to hear from you.
