Senior Accountant | Client Portfolio Management | Inner East Melbourne

Our client is a well-established Inner East Melbourne firm with a loyal, long-term client base. You’ll take ownership of your own portfolio, delivering high-quality accounting and tax outcomes. This role suits someone confident managing clients independently and overseeing end-to-end compliance.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of business and individual clients, acting as their key contact for day-to-day accounting and tax matters.
You’ll also review work, support junior staff, and ensure everything is delivered accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities:

• Manage your own client portfolio end-to-end
• Act as the main point of contact for clients
• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns & BAS/IAS
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax legislation
• Review junior accountant work and provide clear feedback
• Support clients with cash flow, budgeting & forecasting
• Spot issues early and provide practical, timely advice
• Assist with advisory work and value-add opportunities
• Help drive workflow and meet deadlines
• Contribute to improving team processes

About You

• 7+ years’ experience in Australian public practice
• Confident managing a client portfolio independently
• Strong technical tax and accounting skills
• Comfortable reviewing work and guiding junior staff
• Strong communicator with a client-first mindset
• CA or CPA qualified (or near completion)
• Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce or Finance
• Experience with SME clients (preferred)
• Exposure to advisory work (advantageous)
